PRESS: Government to send 95 bln rbl to Shell for Sakhalin-2 stake
MOSCOW, Apr 4 (PRIME) -- The Russian government will allow sending the entire sum of 95 billion rubles to a foreign account of energy company Shell for its stake in the Sakhalin-2 facility, Kommersant business daily reported on Tuesday citing sources.
“(Independent gas producer) Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson has suggested to President Vladimir Putin that the funds obtained by Shell after a sale of 27.5% of the Sakalin-2 project should be sent to its foreign account,” the newspaper reported.
Presently, the money can only be sent to a type C account in Russia where is remains blocked, according to Putin’s order dated June 30, 2022.
Novatek wants to acquire Shell’s stake in the Sakhalin-2.
Kommersant also reported citing its sources that Putin agreed to send the money to Shell’s foreign account.
